Emma’s 5 Favourite Dubai Attractions

I have recently returned from a wonderful trip to Dubai, arranged by the tourist board. I can now fully understand all of its attractions and why it appeals to such a wide range of visitors. I have therefore highlighted my top 5 things to do in Dubai, to give an insight of its appeal.I hope you enjoy reading my blog, as much as I enjoyed experiencing it.

Aqua Adventure (Atlantis the Palm)

This is an absolute must for people who love spectacular rides and thrilling slides. There are adrenaline pumping waterslides that catapult you through the shark filled lagoon, or you can race down the world’s first dual slide within a slide. Fly high on the longest zip line circuit in the Middle East, or you can just relax on the private beach surrounded by the lush tropical landscapes.

Younger children will love Splasher’s, a play area just designed for them and not to forget the lazy river which was my favourite bit, my journey around the lazy river took me approximately 45 minutes and I would have happily spent my day going round and round.

Al Bastakiya

This is a historic district in Dubai and it offers something completely different, where you can learn about the Emiratis local heritage and past. I would highly recommend a tour here, we did the hosted lunch tour where you get to explore the labyrinth of winding streets, taking you past a variety of 19th century merchant houses, art galleries, cafés and boutique hotels. It will take you back in to the past for a magical journey and you’ll experience an atmosphere like nowhere else in Dubai.

Please note women should be aware that they are expected to dress in either long skirts or dresses and to wear either a shawl or cardigan to cover their shoulders, whilst men should wear long trousers and shirts with either long or short sleeves. I’d also encourage you to ask as many questions as possible about the Emiratis way of life, as it will give you an intriguing insight in to the past and present.

Kidzania

This place has to be seen to be believed, it’s absolutely amazing. Basically a city made just for children, run by children. The indoor entertainment centre is a city built to scale for children, complete with paved streets, vehicles, buildings and even a functioning economy.

There are over 80 role playing activities for the children to get involved in. Kids work to earn Kidzo’s, Kidzania’s own currency, so they can pay for goods in the Kidzania City. Educational, inspirational and above all fun so if you are travelling with children this is definitely a must.

Desert Safari

When it comes to desert safaris, as with anything, Dubai knows how to do it better than anyone else. During the day you can combine dune bashing in 4×4’s with camel rides across the sands, you can even try your hand (or feet) at sand skiing. When it comes to the night, you get to sample Middle Eastern delights at the desert bbq whilst enjoying local entertainment such as belly dancing shows.

The whole experience is quite unique and contrasts completely with the other attractions the city has to offer. It’s also really enjoyable to get out of the city and take in where you actually are, long expanses of desert for as far as the eye can see, complete peace and tranquillity and one of the most beautiful nights skies you will see.

Burj Khalifa & Fountains

The world’s tallest building and the magnificent centre piece of downtown Dubai. This is yet another sight that has to be seen to be believed.

Enjoy drinks at the atmosphere bar which is located on the 122 floor, a fabulous experience where you can take in views of the whole of Dubai. Walk around the lake, take in the fountain show performed daily to music, and enjoy the cafes and restaurants that surround the lake.
