The National Mall is home to the country’s most famous monuments and memorials. It’s a 2 mile stretch of land starting at the Lincoln Memorial, which is one of the city’s most popular landmarks, where you can admire Abe looking out across the reflecting pool, and it stretches out to the Capitol. Other popular memorials include the Franklin D Roosevelt Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the National World War 2 Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial.

The city’s museums are also located at the National Mall and are set along an easy to walk row, so are all easy to explore. The two most popular museums are the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum. Other recommended options include the National Museum of American History and the National Museum of the American Indian. Then for something a little different try the Spy Museum, with its interesting gadgets and interactive exhibits.

The White House is another iconic site to visit. Other political buildings that are worth exploring include the Capitol and the Supreme Court, both offering daily guided tours.

As well as the many great cocktail bars and fine-dining restaurants dotted throughout the city, Georgetown is somewhere to head. It offers several quaint streets with many small boutiques, and a mix of relaxed restaurants and bars. It feels far from the hubbub of the bustling city, giving you a real taste of America and its historic charm.
