Enjoy the stunning Californian beaches. If you prefer your beach days packed full of activities, with lots of funky beach bars and great dining spots head to either Pacific or Mission Beach, the latter being the liveliest. La Jolla Cove offers a small, quiet beach perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving, and it also has a park adjacent which is perfect for a spot of lunch. Solana and Carlsband are perfect for secluded relaxation and San Onofre is the best location for surfing, offering an untouched beach which looks probably just how it did hundreds of years ago.

Taking in America’s biggest urban cultural park is a must. At 1’200 acres, Balboa Park is a vast oasis, combining 15 museums, the two most popular being the San Diego Natural History Museum and the San Diego Air & Space Museum, there’s recreational spaces and botanical gardens to enjoy, as well as the Old Globe theatre and the San Diego Zoo.

For theme park fans, there’s Sea World and Aquatica, which are both great theme parks full of rides and shows. You could also visit the Belmont Park, a beachside amusement ground, and for the little ones there’s Legoland. Los Angeles is also easily accessible if you wanted to visit Disneyland.

For some great Mexican flavours, the cities Old Town State Historic Park is the best place to head. Dating back to the first Spanish settlements, this place is a historic treasure trove, full of intriguing buildings and museums, great restaurants and it’s a great place to wonder the streets for endless hours.

When it comes to nightlife San Diego’s Gas Lamp Quarter is where to head. Its Victorian buildings house many restaurants, bars and nightclubs catering for every taste. Whether you’re after a relaxing meal and cocktails, or to party in to the early hours you won’t be disappointed.

Also a must is taking a trip to Coronado Island. Its main beach is regularly voted as one of America’s best, its town is a quaint place with plenty of stylish boutiques and relaxed restaurants, and it is connected to San Diego by a bridge so is easily accessible. It also boasts some of the best views of San Diego.
