Christchurch has a distinctly English-feel about it and has a real feeling of space, with many grassed areas, parks and plenty to see and do. It is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and is situated on the East Coast. Although it was victim to an earthquake in February 2011, Auckland is quickly rebuilding and regenerating itself with new businesses and attractions opening up again every day. Getting about is easy in Christchurch whether by foot, car or the city’s efficient bus service.

Description

The pretty river Avon which runs through the city is perfect for a stroll along the river banks or you could hire a punt and try your hand at gliding along it. There are many restaurants on the banks of the river for you to stop and enjoy a peaceful lunch.

For a spot of retail therapy, try the City Mall with its diverse shops, boutiques and pedestrianised areas. The Mall is particularly buzzing at weekends when market stallers set up shop and sell local arts and craft.

If you’re a wildlife fan, you should visit Orana Wildlife Park, which is New Zealand’s largest animal reserve and home to over 400 animals, including New Zealand’s national emblem, the mammal-like kiwi bird. The Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is a great place for children to get up close to the animals and feed and pet them. Another great wildlife attraction is the International Antarctic Centre where you can watch the penguins feeding, enjoy a 4D snow and experience a snow storm!
