The Sri Lanka Experience:
If you’re planning a trip to Sri Lanka, there is so much to see and do. You can visit many places en-route to Sri Lanka or you can choose to fly direct. Arriving in to Colombo you should spend at least 1 night here to explore this exciting capital. You can even spend some time relaxing at one of the nearby beach resorts such as Mount Lavinia before you head off to explore the amazing things Sri Lanka has to offer.
The Dutch town of Galle is worth a visit. The magnificent Dutch fort is the most popular attraction and the beautiful beach of Unawatuna is just 6km south east of the city centre.
Visit the National Parks of Sinharaja, Uda Walawe and Yala, where you can do jungle safaris to explore the indigenous wildlife.
Take a scenic drive through the mountains, passing stunning waterfalls and tea plantations and visit Nuwara Eliya. Visit the tea factory and follow the tea trails to watch the captivating manufacturing process. You can also visit Horton Plains, Sri Lanka’s highest plateau to witness some spectacular views.
Kandy makes the next ideal stop, where you can visit the Spice Garden and Botanical Gardens. The Temple of the Tooth Relic is a must see attraction and you can enjoy many cultural shows. Moving on to Kandalama you can spend time relaxing at Kandalama Lake, visit the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya and see the water gardens.
Habarana is a must for any Sri Lanka itinerary. You can go on elephant back safaris, visit Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital and go on a jeep safari to Minneriya Sanctuary where you can spot many large aquatic birds, as well as elephants.
Next you can visit Negomba to relax by the beach, visit the small Dutch fort and the beautiful Buddhist Temple. As you are close to the airport, it makes a perfect end to a Sri Lanka experience, however why not choose to go to one of the other many beach resorts on offer where you can end your holiday spending days relaxing on the stunning beaches. Alternatively why not head on to another destination to finish your holiday – how perfect would it be to finish your trip by relaxing in the Maldives.
